RISKam – Environmental Hazard and Risk Assessment and Management is a Research Group belonging to the Centre of Geographical Studies (CEG), Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning, University of Lisbon (IGOT-UL).
RISKam includes 23 researchers whose theoretical and applied research is devoted to the susceptibility, hazard and risk assessment, and risk perception evaluation, related with hazardous geomorphologic, hydrologic and climatologic phenomena. The scientific activity of the group is supported by GIS tools and spatial modelling methods. The applied research is mostly devoted to natural hazards and risk assessment, in the framework of land use planning, environmental management and emergency planning.
The scientific activity of the research group members is made not only in continental Portugal, but also in the Azores and Morocco, in the framework of scientific projects, contract research, cooperation agreements and PhD supervisions. Main international contacts are with the CERG, European Centre on Geomorphological Hazards, Council of Europe, and the European Geosciences Union (EGU).
